ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

Program Goals

Increase students' comfort level with expressing themselves confidently

students being able to exchange and accept others' ideas respectfully

students development of reading as a dialectic process

students being able to separate their ideas from those of other writers

students being able to write in MLA

students becoming part of a global economy as educated citizens

students becoming citizens rather than consumers

students becoming active learners, responsible for their own learning

students reflecting on their own writing and being able to synthesize

students as risk takers in learning process

students being able to express themselves effectively in speaking and writing


SLO Discussion and synthesis from English and ESOL
 

  • Students will be able to summarize what they've read in full sentences

  • Increase the number of students who go to and use the resources of the English Center

  • Students need to develop critical thinking skills to analyze ideology and logical argumentation in media, culture, and society in general

  • Students learn to access and utilize resources that help them with their reading, writing and thinking skills

  • Integrate study skills in all areas of curriculum

  • Integrate Writing Center in all levels of curriculum
