Institutional Annual Report on Student Learning Outcomes

DISCUSSION

We discussed the ACCJC report that is due into ACCJC and recapped for the committee the discussion that Dotti had with Dr. Blue at ACCJC. She confirmed that the report grid went out to colleges without pilot or testing and that ACCJC has been learning from college call-in’s, about the framework and format.

The report is now due May 16th ( City was given an extension) and  we need to include the following in our report ( some of which has already been done):

  • Write a cover letter explaining City’s process for the ACCJC to have a context for the report. Salley pointed out that we should address in this cover letter, the recommendations that we received from WASC at the last visit and that we are addressing those recommendations in our work since the visit. Salley noted that the mid-term report is due 9/07.
  • Dr. Blue also mentioned that we are only expected to complete the sections of the report that reflect City’s work thus far. It is not expected that we will have done all this work as yet. The report focuses on what an organization may have done after a significant number of years working on the Assessment Cycle. ACCJC acknowledges that each college will start at different levels/approaches and will report less on those sections of the report that they have not gotten to as yet. Therefore at City we have focused on Institutional and Program Level SLO’s. Course level and GE are areas for future focus.
  • It was also clarified that in the report section asking us to list departments or courses that have done a specific task that a note about where one might find this information will suffice, rather than a lengthy list of courses/departments. We must cite the database or repository where the info can be located. It was noted that we have “6-Column” information on Dotti’s computer, Berta’s computer, on CD’s and in the LRC. Question about how much could go on the website.

Decisions

Address WASC recommendations in cover letter for 5/16.

Assure there are reliable repositories where the info is kept.

Berta is obtaining information from Chairs on departmental progress and updates.

Classified Retreat Planning June

DISCUSSION

June and the Classified Senate continue to work on all the details involved in getting the retreat planned and finalized. Date is May 5, 2007 at Point Loma Nazarene, with two email invitations thus far.

Details:

·         Icebreaker at this time will be getting to know one another and connecting.

·         Let dept. know who is able to attend so others can bring their thoughts to the attendee prior to the event

·         Sean will document the event with pictures.

·         Gerald Ramsey announced at SSC that supervisors may support via attendance at lunch and to RSVP to June. June invited the IAC committee also. Let her know if you will be able to attend for the lunch.

·         Carol Dexheimer is promoting event to staff in her division, and requested an agenda to promote the event.

·         The other classified staff presidents at Miramar and Mesa have been invited.

·         Working and following up for T-shirts through Randy’s Silkscreen. Not definite as yet.

·         Panel discussion centering on “What you do in your Dept”.

·         Agenda is currently full and it is not feasible to coordinate Jim Colbert doing Tai Chi at Break.

·         Still need gifts to be raffled

·         June clarified that the facilitator, Eric, wanted to meet with stakeholders prior to the retreat. They have negotiated that the retreat will occur first, with a fuller debriefing of all stakeholders afterwards.

·         There is incredible support from President Burgess who hopes this will be an annual event, to parallel the work of the SLOAC cycle. An important part of this entire plan is that there will be follow-up sessions.

·         One theme that seems to have been identified early on for this retreat is that it is essential that there be excellent communication between management, staff and faculty prior to an organizational change so that there can be feedback from front line staff prior to implementation of a change.

·         It is a goal of the facilitator that classified staff are heard.

·         AB 1725 Funds are supporting this first retreat. Title V will support follow-ups.

June is advertising this event on a daily “mail run” also. The 1:1 at this time to promote the retreat is invaluable.
