August 25th

9-12   Convocation-President Burgess describes FLEX focus on student learning, and measurement, and documentation of that learning.  The assessment process goal is programmatic and institutional improvement.

1:00 - 3:30 Department meetings

1:00- 2:30 Teaching and Learning Dialogue About what WE BELIEVE as departments

Faculty led Dialogue on Teaching and Learning Philosophy and Values (N. Badway roving facilitator)

    • What do you think are the most important knowledge, skills, abilities for your students to attain at program completion?

    • What are you favorite assignments and how do they contribute to student learning? How do they help students with the important components of your program?

    • Serves as a frustration to you?

Each meeting incorporates small group discussion, a scribe, and timekeeper. Department chair or designated faculty leader will facilitate the discussion. The scribe will create the WE BELIEVE chart and favorite assignment posters summarizing the discussion. Departmental summary posters to be shared the morning of August 26th.

2:30-3:30     Traditional school meeting conducting usual departmental business

3:30-4:30 Traditional school meeting with Dean

August 26th   Department Meetings

8:30-10:30  Continental Breakfast/Poster display and interdepartmental informal discussion of posters.

  • Distribution of rubric CD and hard copy information on the SLOAC model (Student Learning Outcome Assessment Cycle)

  • Information presentation from institutional researcher on available support..

10:00-12:30 Reconvene departments groups from yesterday to:

  • Continue discussion and reflection on departmental values.

  • Norm (collectively generate and collaboratively identify a long list of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) of importance to departmental faculty.

  • Norm a short list of 1-3 SLOs that the department/program wishes to measure in 2005-2006.

  • Norm a means to measure these student learning outcomes, consistent with program philosophy.

  • Bring Student Learning Outcome for analysis.

  • Develop a plan to improve based upon data results.

  • Campus BBQ hosted by President Burgess (Gorton Quad)

  • Continue departmental work

  • Complete departmental progress report using summary form provided.

  • Evaluation of the Learning Outcome FLEX work conducted in these two FLEX days.

FLEX days this semester again focuses on Student Learning. This week we explore the intersection of Student Learning Outcome Assessment work with the goals and efforts of the Title V work.
