Form CW
Annual Campus-Wide-Programs Review and Master Plan
2007-2008

Program:  Institutional Assessment Committee

  1. How does this campus wide program meet the mission and priorities of the college?  This committee guides City College in facilitating the creation of course, program and institutional level student learning outcomes (SLO).These SLOs are always constructed in concert with the mission and priorities of the college. This is assured and documented via our Six Column Approach to Assessment. Once SLOs are designed, the committee assists faculty and staff in measurement strategies and data collection, all with the end goal of attaining data to effect programmatic improvement and to improve learning on the City College Campus.

  2. How does this program’s activities benefit student learning or correct deficiencies? Programs and departments involved in Student Learning Outcome Assessment have demonstrated tools to systematically look at student learning, to decide how best to measure that learning, and then to review results to make incremental changes to improve that learning.

  3. What new activities does this campus wide program plan for the 2007-2008 academic year? The committee has reached consensus that we need Assessment Software to both facilitate campus-wide involvement and to manage the resulting data. We need a dynamic system that will allows the users to maintain a real-time record of where they stand in development, use and analyses of SLO data, as required by Accreditation standards. The current process entails work with departments on a one-to-one basis, with semester updates manually added to the website. This has limitations in terms of momentum and logistics, but chiefly in campus-wide data analyses. ACCJC requires a yearly update on details of the number of courses, programs, degrees and certificates that have developed SLOs, used them, and made program changes towards improvement. This software program would make compilation and communication of this information considerably more streamlined.

  4. What staff/reassigned time is required in the 2007-2008 academic year?
    1. What is current? 20% each to two co-chairs
    2. What is proposed? 0.4 reassigned/overload time for two co-chairs.  This is requested due to steadily increasing time demands on the co-chairs as more departments are involved and require more support. Additionally, the level of data and involvement necessary to demonstrate to ACCJC/WASC our commitment to this process by the time of the accreditation visit is significant.
  5. What additional equipment/supplies are required in the 2007-2008 academic year?   ELumen SLO Software and Support
  • First year $30,000
  • Second year $18,000
  • 3rd year $10,000

What facilities modifications will be necessary to achieve the campus wide program priorities? None
