Tours
Directions to the LRC and Library may be found here.
Walking tours for groups are scheduled for the second and third weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters. This 25 minute walk through the Learning Resource Center (LRC) building covers the basics of the Library, Multimedia Center, and the Independent Learning Center. The Fall 2008 Tour Schedule is posted in the LRC and is sent to faculty via email. Some faculty print out the schedule and offer extra credit for students who return it with a librarian’s signature.
Virtual tour (e-tour): A photographic slideshow of the LRC may be seen here.
Information Literacy (Research Instruction)
The Library's classroom is located on the main level of the Learning Resource Center, Room R209.
Faculty in all disciplines are encouraged to bring their classes in for research instruction prepared specifically for your students. These 90 minute +/- sessions cover the basics of research and includes librarian-directed hands-on experience.
To schedule your session, please submit the Library Instruction Request form below at least two weeks in advance of your requested date via email to cwithers@sdccd.edu or in person at the Information Desk in the LRC. Please contact Carol Withers (388-3871) with any questions.
Please choose *one* of the following three options to submit the Library Instruction Request Form:
- Complete and submit the web form online (it automatically forwards to Carol Withers);
- Download, complete, and email the Word doc to Carol Withers at cwithers@sdccd.edu;
- Open, complete, and print out the printable .pdf form to bring to the LRC.
The purpose of Library Instruction is to enable Library users to develop the capability to retrieve information from a variety of resources and in a variety of formats. The Library Instruction program involves the Library faculty who provide instruction for individual classes. Each instruction session is tailored to the subject, topics and assignment identified by the classroom instructor. Students learn to search the San Diego City College Library Catalog, Electronic Databases and other information resources.
Instruction sessions/orientations are taught by appointment and may be scheduled for any regular class meeting time. Instructors must accompany their classes during the orientation, or make arrangements for a substitute instructor to do so.
LIBS 101 (1-unit transfers to UCSD, SDSU, National University)
Library Science 101: Information Literacy and Research Skills is a one-unit course covering research strategies by teaching transferable skills applicable to finding paper and electronic resources at City College, in other libraries and elsewhere. Evaluation criteria to determine academic appropriateness are explored. Check the current schedule for course availability: search for "Library Science" as the subject.
