Ask a Librarian: Online Chat Reference Service
About this Service:
- What it is: This service provides answers to research questions, finding information on a topic, and brief information about City College Library. It does not have access to borrowing records or checkout information.
- Who is chatting with you: This service employs librarians from around the world. For a local librarian, go back to our Ask a Librarian page and select a different option (walk-in, telephone, or email).
- Answer or how-to: The librarian can either give you an answer, or show you how to find an answer yourself.
Getting Started:
- You must use Internet Explorer (IE) browser for PC or Mac for best results. If you are using AOL, please exit AOL and use IE.
- Fill out the form in the right-hand frame of your browser to begin a session.
- A transcript of the session will be sent to your email address, if you provide it.
- A session usually lasts less than 15 minutes.
Session Guidelines:
To avoid disconnection during the session,
- Use the forward, back and refresh buttons within your browser's shared webpage frame during the session.
- Do not bookmark, add favorites, or print during the session! Wait until the end of the session, when you will receive a list of live links that will allow you to go back and visit all of the pages the librarian showed you.
- Use the "Start" menu or Taskbar shortcut if you need to open a second browser for any reason while connected.(Control+ N or File New will cause a crash.)
Thank you for using our online live reference service!
