The Multimedia Center houses the college's primary collection of audio visual materials and equipment for instructional and general institutional usage and support. The center supports not only instructors in the classroom environment, but also administrative and special events sponsored by administrative offices. With instructor permission in advance, students may borrow equipment for use in class presentations.
On-Site Video Collection
The Multimedia Center maintains a collection of video tapes for student viewing in the ILC or for faculty loan. Faculty may check out videos for one week. Find videos via the Library's online catalog: (search will open as new window):
County Consortium Collection
The Multimedia Center provides access for faculty to the San Diego County Office of Education video and media Library. Thousands of items are available for borrowing. These materials are delivered and returned Mondays and Thursdays to City College LRC Multimedia Center. Participants may borrow materials for up to 28 days. Loans may be booked months in advance to coincide with your syllabus. The service requires a free membership account.

The Multimedia Center provides the following equipment for faculty use:

The Multimedia Center is responsible for maintaining the performance of all equipment held by the Center. All equipment related maintenance concerns should be directed to the Multimedia Center for local as well as vendor repairs and services. Safety concerns will be addressed promptly.
Reservation Requests for Equipment
The Multimedia Center provides audio-visual equipment for on-campus use to SDCC faculty, staff and administrators for academic and campus support through a reservation system. Reservations are required to ensure availability.
How to request: Equipment reservation requests are made via e-mail, telephone or in person at the Multimedia Center. Reservations are confirmed via e-mail or telephone.
When to request: Equipment reservation requests are to be made two (2) business days in advance to ensure availability which is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
What to include in request: The following information is required:
- Specific name of equipment
- Full name and contact phone number of the faculty, staff or administrator requesting
- Room number and building or location of event
- Date and time of equipment pick-up
- Time all equipment will be returned
Equipment returns after the Multimedia Center hours of operation require prior arrangements with staff for securing equipment.
Special requests, accommodations, services, and/or considerations must be made in-person.
Special Reservations
A Standing Reservation (SR) is arranged through the Multimedia Center for faculty who use equipment on a regular basis in classrooms or labs. SRs are cancelled if the equipment is not used three consecutive sessions.
Overnight and Extended Term Reservations are available to faculty, staff and administrators if the requested equipment is available. Faculty, staff and administrators checking out equipment for overnight, extended periods, and/or off campus events are required to complete and sign an individual responsibility form.
Equipment Orientations
Orientations on equipment usage are required and provided prior to first-time use of all equipment. Please allow at least 15 minutes for an orientation prior to borrowing the equipment for the first time.
Student Borrowers
Student equipment requests for assignment-related use must have faculty authorization. Equipment may be reserved for campus use only, and must not to exceed normal Multimedia Center hours of operation. Authorization entails faculty confirmation of the student’s request via a faculty-signed confirmation card (available in the Multimedia Center) and telephone/e-mail/or in-person faculty confirmation. Students must present the completed authorization card and current student ID card when picking up the equipment.
Student equipment requests for campus events are made through the Student Affairs Office, 619.388.3498. The Student Affairs Office staff authorizes the request with a signed confirmation notice from the Dean of Student Affairs. Forms are available in the Student Affairs Office (D-105).
Students may also view video tapes from the Multimedia Center collection by using equipment on-site in the Independent Learning Center.
