SAN DIEGO, CA
(April 17, 2008)….
On Thursday, April 24 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., San Diego City
College will host Earth Fair ’08 at its downtown campus on 1313 Park
Boulevard. More than 40 local organizations and vendors will be on
campus to hold workshops, conduct demonstrations and share
information on green products and environmental sustainability.
Activities will include a SDGE and City of San Diego-sponsored light
bulb exchange, and workshops on a variety of topics including
composting, tree trimming, and vermiculture (worm farms).
Throughout the day, attendees can also enjoy films, a juried photo
contest, a chalk art competition and many other events.
The Fair includes live music and dance, including Central and South
American Folkloric music by Contrastes. Organic foods and
refreshments will be available from Peace Pies, Roots and O.B.
Peoples Co-op.
City College Environmental Stewardship Committee Chair, Karon
Klipple said, “We’ve had just an overwhelming response from
organizations and vendors wanting to be a part of our Earth Fair.
We’re expecting a big crowd.”

Environmental Health Coalition, Green Earth Recycling, San Diego
Zoo, Sierra Club, Yoganic Studio and Zero Waste San Diego. For a

Also, on
Thursday, April 24th, Dr. Michael Mooring, Professor of
Biology at Point Loma Nazarene University will present An
Inconvenient Truth from 9:35 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in D-121.
Trained by Al Gore, Mooring will discuss the current climate crisis
and how to help take action on this problem.
Free parking and
shuttle service will be available at Inspiration Way and Park Blvd
(at the Naval Hospital across from Balboa Park.) Trolley service is
available at the City College Trolley Station located at Park
Boulevard and C Street.
Recognized for
its environmental advocacy, San Diego City College recently earned a
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver
certification from the US Green Building Council for its remodeling
of the college’s Learning Resource Center. City College has also
been named a Recycler of the Year through the City of San Diego’s
2008 Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards Program. San Diego Mayor
Jerry Sanders and City Council President Scott Peters will formally
recognize City College’s recycling efforts at the Tuesday, April 22,
2008 City of San Diego Council meeting at 10:00 a.m.
