Meet Our Faculty!

June Richards
Artistic Director

June Richards is an accomplished stage director and actress as well as author of several musical plays. She has directed over 100 plays, has studied in New York with Uta Hagen and holds degrees in Theatre arts. June has appeared with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, the Actor's Workshop in San Francisco and the Lincoln Center Repertory Theatre in New York City. She continues her association as a faculty member with the Drama Studio in London. Prior to coming to City College, June taught and composed musical Theatre pieces in the bay area.

Robert Norberg
Technical Director

A graduate of UCSD, Rob has been working as a Technical Director and Lighting Designer for San Diego City College for the past 25 years. He has designed hundreds of productions during his tenure with the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Outside of his campus duties, Rob has worked in many other venues as a designer, tech director and stage manager.

Carol Whaley
Costume Designer

CAROL WHALEY has designed hundreds of costumes that have been featured in City College’s productions of “The Wizard of Oz,” “Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Guys and Dolls,” “A Chorus Line,” and “Anything Goes!” In addition to her design duties, Carol also creates the make-up designs for each production.

Alicia Rincon
Department Chair

Alicia Rincon received her BA and MFA in Dance and Choreography from USIU's School of Performing and Visual Arts. She was one of the original members of Jazz Unlimited. Alicia has choreographed over 30 major works during the past fifteen years while working with the company. Alicia is the Artistic Director at City College and makes time to serve as Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department. She has also served on the dance faculty at UCSD for the past 25 years.

Duane Gardella
Scenic Designer

Duane brings an extensive background in television, Theatre and film design to his faculty and design duties at City College. Among his many awards are the Marcom Masque award, Florence Theil Herscher award and a Dramalogue award. His art direction work has been seen on "General Hospital," all three major TV networks and in music videos. Duane's set designs have been featured at the Long Beach Playhouse, Westchester Playhouse and Hillside Repertory.
