Important Financial Aid News for 2007-2008

Health Fee and BOG Fee Waiver

All students who qualify for a BOG Fee Waiver will have to pay the Health fee each semester. The Health fee is $13 for Fall and Spring and $10 for Summer.

Exception: Students who qualify for a BOG A Fee Waiver due to receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Program) or General Assistance (Food Stamp assistance alone is not sufficient and does not qualify) are exempt from paying the Health fee. Students applying for a BOG A Fee Waiver under one of the above methods must provide proof of receiving these benefits for either the current month or prior month at the time of BOG A application.

Enrollment Fees and Pell Grant Awards

The Enrollment fee is now $20 per unit. Due to a tuition sensitivity federal regulation, students who are eligible for the maximum Pell Grant of $4,310 will have their award adjusted and reduced to $4,176 based on a full-time enrollment status.

Important Note: Congress is currently considering legislation to repeal the tuition sensitivity regulation effective with the Fall 2007 semester. If passed, students will be eligible for the higher $4,310 Pell Grant.

Exception: Non-resident students may still qualify for the $4,310 Pell Grant, if eligible, based on the non-resident tuition they are charged.

California High School Exit Exam and Cal Grant Eligibility

Students awarded a Cal Grant must have a high school diploma and pass the California High School Exit Exam. Students will need to provide proof of passing the Exit Exam before a Cal Grant award can be disbursed. Students who do not pass the Exit Exam will not be eligible for a Cal Grant.
