Summer 2020 will be conducted primarily online and via distance education.


To support students enrolled in City's online courses,  the Tutorial/Learning Center is providing FREE online tutoring services with two options : Canvas Tutoring and eTutoring.


1.  Canvas Tutoring

Canvas tutoring will be available Monday - Thursday from 10:00am - 4:00pm starting Tuesday, July 7.  It will be staffed exclusively with San Diego City College Tutorial/Learning Center tutors. This support service will be added to your Canvas shell under the name DS-CITY-ONLINE-TUTORING. We will provide virtual walk-in tutoring in several subjects (biology, chemistry, cisc, math, physics, & spanish) using Zoom. 


You must have a Canvas account set up in order to access Canvas tutoring.

2.  eTutoring

Available 7 days a week. In addition to City College tutors, eTutoring has tutors from over 130 two and four-year, public and private colleges and universities across America to assist you.

eTutoring services include

  • Live Tutoring (Synchronous Tutoring)

         Students will have a one-on-one tutoring session via Zoom. See weekly Live Tutoring schedule here.

  • eQuestions (Asynchronous Tutoring)

          Students can leave a specific question for our eTutors and get a response within 48 hours.

  • Writing Lab

          Students can submit a draft of your paper to a tutor, ask for specific feedback, and receive a                        detailed response within 48 hours.

The Tutorial/Learning Center (TLC) staff serves San Diego City College and ECC students and helps them achieve their academic goals.  Come to the TLC for a place to study, to do homework assignment, receive academic assistance and support, meet with study groups, and attend study skills workshops.

The Tutorial/Learning Center (TLC) offers tutoring in the majority of courses taught at San Diego City College, except English. English tutoring is conducted at the English Writing Center located at L-209.

Our tutoring services are provided free of charge.  

You MUST be currently enrolled in the course for which you are requesting assistance, to receive tutoring.

The TLC cannot guarantee that tutoring will be available for every City College course or that every subject will be covered at all times.

Services Provided:

Walk-in Tutoring
Available for high demand subjects and with unlimited hours. Walk-in tutoring is a setting where a tutor may work in helping more than one student at a time in a variety of subjects of his/her areas of competency. This type of tutoring is suitable for a student to ask brief questions to a tutor on a specific subject. Walk-in schedule is available at the front desk.

One-on-One Appointments
Subject to availability.  

Online Tutoring
San Diego City College is now a member of the Western eTutoring Consortium (WeTC).  Online tutoring is available 7 days a week.  To receive online tutoring services you must be a current City College or ECC student and enroll in WeTC. Click here to enroll.

Academic Skills Workshops
Workshops are one hour long and are offered twice a week. They are geared to help strengthen learning skills such as: Time Management, Reading and Note-Taking, Test-taking and Test-Anxiety, Memory Techniques, etc. For more information and to check for dates and times please, call or stop by our front desk.

*Some instructors may award extra credit points for attending.

Computer Lab
The computer lab is equipped with twenty computers. Available on a first-come first-serve basis ONLY for school and tutoring related activities.

Study groups
Tutor - facilitated study groups of four or more students in the same subject can be established by student request. Reservation depends on tutor and room availability. Reserve study room at front desk.

Math Cram Jam
It is a Math department final review for Math 38, 46 and 96. Conducted by a tutor. Offered at the end the semester. Reserve your spot at the front desk.

SI/SLA (Supplemental Instruction/ Structured Learning Assistance)
SI/SLA tutors are assigned to selected difficult courses and they offer a series of weekly tutoring and review sessions for students enrolling in those courses. SI/SLA weekly sessions are not open to everyone, only to specific number of students. If you are interested, please  check with our front desk.
