The flyer,

financial aid information are now available for the Spring 2011 study abroad program to Beijing, China. Spend slightly more than 10 weeks in the world's most populous nation experiencing the mystery and beauty of the Orient in this up and coming world superpower. Students will enroll at Riverside Community College (RCC) in order to participate in this program. Two RCC professors will teach Political Science 1 (American Politics), Political Science 2 (Comparative Politics), Political Science 4 (World Politics), Philosophy 10 (Intro to Philosophy), Philosophy 12 (Intro to Ethics), and Philosophy 35 (Philosophy of Religion). Chinese 1 (Chinese Language and Culture) will be an optional class offered at an additional cost. Course numbers are RCC course numbers. Classes will begin in California for 3 weeks prior to departure. Excursions and field trips, including to the Great Wall of China, will enhance your studies. Summer intensive language program in
Cuernavaca, Mexico |
Study abroad programs are offered every
fall and spring semester for a period of 8 to 12 weeks. Past programs
have taken place in countries around the world such as Argentina,
Australia, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Spain (Barcelona, Madrid and
Salamanca), United Kingdom (Oxford and London), in conjunction with one
of two California study abroad consortia or coordinated by San Diego
City College. Short-term study abroad programs have also been offered in
such locations as Madrid, Spain; Cuernavaca, Mexico (four weeks and two
weeks). and Ensenada, Mexico. Students on these programs study in
different countries around the world in order to develop global
competencies and to increase cultural awareness while making progress
towards completion of academic goals. Classes are taught by California
community college instructors and/or by host country nationals at
affiliated institutions abroad. Field trips, excursions, and visits to
sites of cultural and historical interest are components of the program.
Housing arrangements include family homestays, student apartments,
and/or residence halls.
Financial aid for semester programs is available to students who
qualify.
Scholarship Opportunities
A special scholarship sponsored by the Department of
State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
called the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship is
available on a nationwide competitive basis to
students who are in good academic standing, are U.S.
citizens, and who are eligible for a Federal Pell
Grant. This prestigious and substantial scholarship
is designed to assist students who would not
normally be able to study abroad to do so. For more

The SAN DIEGO FOUNDATION offers study abroad
scholarships to City College students for fall,
spring and summer study abroad for specific

The International Education
Office disseminates information about opportunities abroad (study, work,
internships, volunteering, scholarships) to faculty, staff, and students.
It also develops and implements short-term study abroad programs for City
College, and participates in the development of semester-long
study abroad programs as part of the countywide study abroad consortium.
Other college international education activities are also coordinated by
this office.

Brochures and application forms will be available soon for the Spring 2011 study abroad program to Salamanca, Spain. Spend 11 weeks in the Oxford of Spain! Students will register at Citrus College in Glendora, CA in order to participate in this program. Professor Snezana Petrovic from Crafton Hills College will teach Theatre 101 (Intro to Theatre Arts), Art 103 (Renaissance to Rococo), Art 105 (Early 20th Century Art), Art 111 (Beginning Drawing), and Art 112 (Intermediate Drawing). Professor Patricia Marquez from Antelope Valley College will teach Psych 101 (Intro to Psychology), Psych 205 (Developmental Psychology), Psych 206 (Child Growth & Development), and Psych 220 (Intro to Social Psychology). Professor Angela Shaheen from Antelope Valley College and on-site instructors will teach Spanish 101, 102, 201, 202 and beginning and intermediate conversational Spanish. All students are required to take History 127 (Spanish Civilization). Excursions and field trips will enhance your studies. Plans for a Spanish immersion program for Summer 2011 during the month of July are currently in the early planning stages. The location is
Costa Rica, the Central American country known for its many natural wonders! Six levels of Spanish will be offered: 101, 102, 201, 202, 210 and 211 while living with a Costa Rican host family.
