2008 study abroad program to Buenos Aires, Argentina!
Classes will begin in San Diego for 2 weeks prior to departure
followed by 10 weeks in Argentina. Come join us in the Paris
of Latin America and experience the tango, the home of Evita
Peron, and the life of a gaucho!!!!!! Classes offered will be
Anthropology 102 (Intro to Physical Anthropology),
Anthropology 103 (Intro to Cultural Anthropology), Anthro 215
(Cultures of Latin America), Music 109 (World Music), History
115B (History of the Americas II), Spanish 101, 102, 201 and
possibly 202. Anthropology 265 (Argentine Life and Culture)
will be a required class. Participants will live with an
Argentine host family in a private room and receive two daily
meals or live in a shared student apartment without meals
included. Excursions to sites of historical and cultural

most fascinating capital cities of the world. Students will
register at Citrus College in Glendora, CA in order to
participate in this program. Citrus College classes offered
will be English 101 (Reading and Composition), English 210
(Creative Writing), English 252 (Intro to English Literature
II), English 294 ( Intro to Shakespeare), Art 101 (Art History
Appreciation – Ancient), Art 105 (Art History and Appreciation
(20th Century), Art 199 (Motion Picture
Appreciation), History 120 (British Life and Culture),
Humanities 102, Psychology 101 (Intro to Psychology),
Psychology 205 (Developmental Psychology), and Philosophy 101
(Great Religions of the World). Live with an English host
family and get breakfast 5 days a week or in a student
apartment (no food included). Excursions and field trips will

Study abroad
programs are available every fall and spring semester for a period of up
to 12
weeks in countries such as the United Kingdom,
Italy,
Costa Rica,
Australia, Spain,
and
France
in conjunction with the local study abroad consortium or in partnership
with other community colleges in California.
Short-term
study abroad programs have also been offered in such locations as
Madrid,
Spain;
Cuernavaca
(four weeks
and
two weeks).
and
Ensenada,
Mexico. Students on these programs study in different countries around the world
in order to develop global competencies and to increase cultural
awareness while making progress towards completion of academic goals.
Classes are taught by California community college instructors at host
institutions abroad. Field trips, excursions, and visits to sites of
cultural and historical interest are components of the program. Housing
arrangements include family homestays, student apartments, and/or
residence halls.
Financial aid for semester programs is available to students who
qualify.
Scholarship Opportunities
A special scholarship sponsored by the Department of
State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
called the Gilman Scholarship is available on a
nationwide competitive basis to students who are in
good academic standing, are U.S. citizens, and who
are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant. This
prestigious and substantial scholarship is designed
to assist students who would not normally be able to
study abroad to do so. For more information, please

Scholarships may be available through the Student
Affairs Office in D-106 and students are encouraged
to research the availability of others.
The International Education
Office disseminates information about opportunities abroad (study, work,
internships, volunteering, scholarships) to faculty, staff, and students.
It also develops and implements short-term study abroad programs for City
College, and participates in the development of semester-long
study abroad programs as part of the countywide study abroad consortium.
Other college international education activities are also coordinated by
this office.

the Spring 2009 study abroad program to Florence, Italy.
Spend 12 weeks in this stellar Renaissance city which houses
many of the major artistic masterpieces of that era.
Students will register at Cuyamaca College in order to
participate in this program. Dr. Marion de Koning from
Grossmont College will teach Art 100 (Art Appreciation), Art
140 (Western Art I - Ancient to Gothic), and Art 141
(Western Art II - late Gothic to early 20th Century). Dr.
Peter Utgaard from Cuyamaca College will teach Humanities
110 (Principles of the Humanities), History 105 (Early
Western Civilization), History 106 (Modern Western
Civilization), and History 275 (Historical Period - The
Renaissance). Italian 120 and 121 will be taught by on-site
instructors. Course numbers are Cuyamaca College course
numbers. All students are required to take Humanities 299
(Italian Life and Culture). Excursions and field trips will
enhance your studies. Participants will live in shared
student apartments (no meals included) or with Italian host
