“Strategies for Classroom Success” is about our City College faculty, our
City College students and the many strategies that our faculty use in the
classroom to promote the retention and success of our students.
There are necessary conditions for promoting student retention and
success:
-
Expectations
-
Support
-
Feedback
-
Involvement
-
Learning
These conditions are well documented in the work of Dr. Vincent Tinto* and
many others who have conducted extensive research on student retention.
The
faculty strategies presented in this web site are “captured” in the
context of these five necessary conditions (respectfully referred to as
The Tinto 5),
i.e. the conditions embodied in each strategy are identified. All City
College faculty are invited to participate and contribute 1 strategy to
this community project.
Once captured online, these strategies provide a rich
“collective-knowledge” resource for promoting community building and an
enhanced campus culture. Having the strategies available online
facilitates dissemination throughout the campus community and beyond.
More importantly, the strategies
themselves, including faculty pictures, represent a form of
story-telling. These are rich artifacts of our campus culture, and
they hold the successful stories of our faculty and students.
Enjoy learning about The Tinto 5, our City College community and
our campus culture through these “strategies for classroom success”.
