Math Center

Mission - Provide a flexible learner-centered environment in which students are able to complete their college math requirements at their own pace.

Courses - All courses receive full college credit

§       Math 35 - Prealgebra, 3 units

§       Math 95 - Elementary Algebra and Geometry, 5 units

§       Math 96 - Intermediate Algebra and Geometry, 5 units

Requirements

§       Orientation and diagnostic testing prior to the course

§       Purchase specific textbook and supplements package

§       Regular attendance is required

§       Grade determined by required chapter tests, workshops and final exam

Learning resources

§      Custom-published textbooks, bundled with supplements:

·      Student solutions manual

·      Computer-based video instruction, keyed to learning objectives in the textbook

·      Interactive computer tutorials, keyed to learning objectives in the textbook

·      Telephone tutor access code

§      Internet access to selected Math tutorials

§      Computer-based testing for instant feedback

§      Diagnostic printouts from all tests, keyed to learning objectives in the textbook

§      Live and video-based workshops on math-related topics

§      On-site tutors

§      Limited check out of books and calculators

Key features:

§      Self-paced learning - Complete a course in as little as a few weeks, or extend it up to nearly two semesters.

§      Flexible scheduling - Attend any hours that the Math Center is open as long as you meet your minimum weekly attendance requirement.

§      Mastery learning - Practice tests, retesting, and selectively assigned homework insure that students learn the material.
