PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLIST SAFETY PROJECT VISION

This project will facilitate a City College/East Village environment that is safe, welcoming and accommodating for pedestrians, persons in wheelchairs and bicyclists.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
With the continued growth of City College and the downtown redevelopment surrounding the college campus, the added density of new residents, businesses and students means increased vehicular traffic and concerns about street and pedestrian safety. Awareness and environmental improvements are critical to increasing the safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.

PROJECT GOALS
Prevention of pedestrian & bicyclist injuries and fatalities

♦ Promote pedestrian and bicyclist safety at City College, San Diego High School and in the nearby East Village community, including safety for persons with disabilities
♦ Engage students and neighbors in efforts to increase safety awareness, skills and advocacy
♦ Reduce environmental risks by advocating for more pedestrian/bicyclist friendly walkways and streets
♦ Advance safety policies and increase enforcement of traffic laws
