University Catalogs, Guidebooks, and Information

The Transfer/Career Center in room A-111 has catalogs, books, information packets, and other materials to help you explore different universities.

Visit the "Transfer Information" area of the Center to find materials with information about universities.

Information packets for each of City College's most popular transfer destinations are available on the wall in the Transfer Information area of the Center.

Brochures and other information for many universities are available in the file drawers in the Transfer Information area of the Center.

The "Blue Books" in the top left bookshelf list descriptions, contact information, majors, and other information for all U.S. universities.

Peterson's Complete Guide to Colleges in the top left bookshelf has information about all U.S. colleges.

Other books in the Transfer Information area of the Center recommend colleges for different subjects, programs, or ethnic/cultural groups.

How To Read a Catalog

The Index, usually located in the back, lists individual topics and what page to find them on. This is usually the best place to start looking for information in the catalog.

Major information, including a description of each major, course requirements, and course descriptions, can usually be found in the middle of the catalog, and is usually listed alphabetically by major or academic department.

Admission information, Academic Requirements, Student Services programs, and other information about the university is usually located in the front of the catalog.

University policies, including policies on grading, course repetition, withdrawals, academic renewal, leave of absence, etc. is sometimes found at the end of the catalog.
