Work Experience
Ask anyone with a great job how they got it and you’ll
probably get one of three answers—education, experience, and
connections!
The City College Cooperative work Experience program
is the link between your academic studies and the world of work. By
combining on-the-job training and college credit, the program enables
you to explore occupations related to your major, improve your
marketable skills, and increase earning
power. Credit you earn in Work Experience classes can be applied
toward your associate’s degree at City College and transferred to the
California State University system.
The goals and assignments for the Work Experience class
are determined by the student, in collaboration with the instructor and
workplace supervisor. During the course, the instructor visits the
student’s workplace to review and evaluate the type and quality of
learning taking place.
Students earn from two to four units of credit for the
Work Experience class, depending on the number of hours worked on the
job. During a regular fall or spring term, students must maintain
enrollment in at least seven units, including the Work Experience
class. Because of the short length of the summer session, students need
only be enrolled in one other class in addition to Work Experience,
regardless of units. Students can enroll up to four times in a Work
Experience class, potentially earning a maximum of 16 total units. |
