Visual & Performing Arts: Graphic Design

Why City College:

The City College Graphic Design program teaches students the meaning and power of graphic symbols and words and the international language of visual images. Graphic artists use both traditional methods and state-of-the-art computer technology to solve graphic design problems. Graphic design courses include Basic Design, Typography, Production Art, Page Layout, Computer Illustration, Logo & Packaging, Freelance Business Practices and Portfolio. Certificate and Associate degree programs are available.

Excellent Opportunities for Men and Woman:
Graphic design offers great opportunities for both men and women. Several prominent San Diego design firms are owned and operated by women.

Departmental Tips:

  • Exciting jobs now exist for graphic art students trained in computer technology, especially in production, design. Internet. Web page and environmental graphics.
  • Students should pick up the department packet detailing courses, certificate & degree requirements and class sequence from Rm. T-310 A or have one mailed.
  • Students complete assignments in the Visual Arts and Multimedia labs using both traditional hand techniques and the latest digital computer technology.
  • Students must pay all materials costs for in-class projects, final portfolios and computer printouts.
