Why City College:
  • The City College Electronics program is unique for its Capstone courses, taught by professional design engineers working in industry. This direct contact with professionals gives students access to the latest electronics information, techniques and applications.
  • Our Capstone Microcomputer/Computer Systems class is structured to mirror actual workplace methods and procedures. Engineering and electronics students design a microcomputer unit from the bottom up: from planning, procurement, and fabrication, through documentation, system testing and troubleshooting.
  • Our program is constantly reevaluated by professional engineers who advise the department on the effectiveness of course teachings for industry.
  • Enrollment fees are lowest of any college, university or technical school in California.

Electronics and Telecommunications are two of the fastest growing technologies in San Diego County. The City College Electronics Technology program offers top-notch entry level training for a wide range of jobs in the field of electronics and telecommunications. A certificate program teaches electronic basics while the degree option offers specializations in Communications and Microcomputer/Microcontroller Design.

Excellent Opportunities for Men and Woman:
Exciting opportunities exist in the electronics and telecommunications industries for qualified graduates of both sexes.

Departmental Tips:

  • Since electronics is best learned by doing, each electronics theory course is coupled with a lab course. Active participation in labs is the best way for students to test their understanding of material covered in class.
  • Electronics 124, the beginning course, offers extra help to students through peer- directed study sessions which are very helpful for reviewing and clarifying material studied in class.
  • Engineering and electronics students design a microcomputer unit from the bottom up: from planning, procurement, and fabrication, through documentation, system testing and troubleshooting.
