Electricians install wiring and electrical equipment in buildings and maintain electrical equipment such as generators, lighting systems and machinery for production. They make emergency repairs and do preventive maintenance. Electricians generally specialize in construction, maintenance or repairs.

Experience:
Electricians must complete four years of training, or an apprenticeship in electricity. To get a state license, self- employed electrical contractors must have four years of journeyman experience, pass a written exam, and purchase a license bond.
