Why City College:
  • The City College Machine Technology program is recognized locally, nationally and internationally as a high tech leader.
  • Our program was chosen as a national model by the U.S. Dept. of Education an the National Science Foundation.
  • Manufacturing companies throughout California regularly contact our department seeking qualified workers.
  • Our courses offer hands-on time in the lab using the latest, industry standard software and hardware.
  • Machine technology courses at City College cover all levels from beginning to advanced and make extensive use of the Internet for research and communication.
  • Our instructors and students have won national and international competitions such as the Master CAM Part Programming competition.
  • Enrollment fees are lowest of any college, university or technical school in California.

The City College Machine Technology program offers a wide range of courses in modem machining using Computerized Numerical Control (CNC), Computer Assisted Design (CAD) and Computer Assisted Machining (CAM) for beginners and advanced machinists already working in the field. Both certificate and degree programs are available.

Excellent Opportunities for Men and Woman:
Computerized numerical control has changed machining forever from a man's world full of dirty, heavy lifting, to computer assisted design and machining for high tech companies in biotechnology, aerospace, music and electronics. Great opportunities exist in San Diego and nationwide for skilled high-tech machinists of both sexes.

Departmental Tips:

  • Students need no prior experience with computers or machining. Beginning classes provide specific training in those areas.
  • Consistent attendance is critical since new information is presented in every class. Students who miss class will fall behind quickly and be unable to catch up.
  • Students should be prepared to spend extra study time outside of class.
