Manufacturing Engineering Technicians help engineers plan, research, design, develop and manufacture engineering projects. They test and troubleshoot electrical, computer and electronics systems and work in product manufacturing and sales.

Experience:
Employers prefer two years of specialized training or experience, including theoretical instruction and laboratory experience, from a community college or four-year institution.

  • Computer-Aided Design & Manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
  • Computer programming skills
  • Drafting & surveying principles
  • Graphics & mathematical computations
  • Physical sciences

Employment Outlook:
Engineering technicians experienced with CAD/CAM and robotics will be in greatest demand. Job growth will depend on demand for defense systems, integrated microprocessor circuits and other high tech applications. Some 12,500 mechanical and industrial engineering technicians are expected to be employed in California over the next decade.
