Why City College:
  • The City College Radio & Television program uses the latest software and multimedia equipment to train students for the professional workplace.
  • Students get "hands-on" experience in all areas of radio and TV production at the City College radio station KSDS-FM, 88.3 and color TV production studio.
  • Our department maintains close ties to local radio and television stations for job placements and internships.
  • Our instructors are radio and television professionals with industry experience. Many report or create programming for local TV and radio news and shows.
  • An industry advisory committee of radio, multimedia and TV professionals ensures City College curriculum is current and relevant.
  • Enrollment fees are lowest of any college, university or technical school in California.

The City College Communications Department prepares students to inform and entertain the public in the exciting fields of radio, television, video, film and multimedia using state-of- the-art instruction and equipment. Courses are both practical and theoretical, equipping students for entry level jobs in Broadcasting and Special Application television. Students may specialize in Radio, Radio & Television News, Video & Film, Management & Sales or Multimedia.

Excellent Opportunities for Men and Woman:
Creative opportunities abound for women and men in radio and television, both in front of and behind the camera and microphone as news writers, program producers, anchors, reporters, camera operators, editors, switchers and audio technicians.

Departmental Tips:

  • Dramatic opportunities are opening up for students with television and radio experience via rapidly expanding cable and satellite TV programming and the Internet.
  • Employers seek graduates who are fast learners and self-starters with some basic skills and prefer to hire interns or students with completed coursework.
  • Employers know that City College radio and television graduates have broad- based knowledge and skills and can get the job done.
  • Students must complete at least six units of radio and television courses before enrolling in the internship program.
