Knights Take Time to Give Back to the Community

10/29/2015

During the fall semester, the San Diego City College men’s volleyball team has been actively involved in the community. The Knights have volunteered at Stand Down, Holes for Heros Golf Tournament, the Downtown Sand Castle Event, The Lucky Duck Foundation Golf Tournament and a country benefit concert for creating first impressions.

Head Coach Kevin Pratte is a firm believer that having his players involved in community service will get them connected to movers and shakers of the San Diego community. It is also important to Coach Pratte to instill in his players’ to give back.

“One of my favorite parts of coaching is connecting my players’ to dynamic community leaders," said Pratte. "Through community service, my players have met rotarians, political leaders, professional athletes, members of the military, and people that need a helping hand.

"When my players are willing volunteer four to five hours of their Saturdays to give back to America’s finest city, it just speaks volumes of the type of people they are. It is a pleasure coaching the San Diego City College men’s volleyball program. They are winning in all phases of life," said Pratte.

“I am locked into this program and I have the utmost amount of confidence in Coach Pratte," said sophomore Zach Kramer. "He models great behavior for us and it inspires the team to join him in giving back to the community.

"I have met some influential people while giving back to the community and they are eager to assist me in playing volleyball at the division one level. San Diego City College men’s volleyball is truly setting the standard for how community college athletic teams should be run,” said Kramer.

What they are saying about the Knights:
“Thank you for the great work your players provided the day/night of the event," said Martin M. Correia of Country Benefit Concert for Creating First Impressions. "Not only were they reliable but they did a great job in representing our event and the organization along with yours as well. It is so important to get support from volunteers to make events like this successful. We were able to raise monies that will greatly benefit young adults that don't have the current tools to go out there and find jobs in today's market. What I found most enjoyable from your young group is they set the bar in what we hope to instill in the children in the "program". I can't say 'thank you' enough and I hope to have them involved next year."

“I wanted to let you, Melina, Kiana, Zachary and Spenser know how truly grateful I was for helping us at the 2015 Lucky Duck Swing and Soiree. Your team had it all; braun, personality, punctuality, an eagerness to learn and a heart for serving others. You are all part of a tremendous year in which we raised over a million dollars! I wish you the best of seasons and hope to see you next year.” - Pam Carr, Lucky Duck Foundation
