From Setback to Strength: How City College Empowered Malarie McKinney
Malarie McKinney originally planned to attend San Francisco State University but chose San Diego City College after realizing the cost of studying away from home was too high. While there, she discovered a passion for sociology and earned an associate degree in spring 2025. She now attends San Diego State University as a sociology major and expects to graduate in fall 2026. McKinney continues to support City College students through her work in the Outreach Department and hopes to create change in the future as an attorney, counselor, or educator.
