Men’s Basketball Coach Mitch Charlens hit a major milestone with his 400th career win at San Diego City College, leading the Knights to a 67-31 victory over Barstow. With over two decades at the helm, Charlens has built a powerhouse program that includes a state championship, multiple conference titles, and a .688 win percentage. His latest win was a team effort, powered by standout freshman Dylan Griffin and strong bench support.

After following her sister’s footsteps to San Diego City College, Teri Monte found more than just classes—she found confidence, community, and a path to a backstage career in theatre. Overcoming childhood homelessness and early academic struggles, she’s now thriving as a screenwriter, stage tech, and actor with big dreams for the future. With decades of dedication between them, their story highlights a powerful family legacy of service and care. Reading Comics Supports Mental Health
Salvador Guzman-Arellano, an accounting specialist supervisor in Business Services at San Diego City College, is a shining example of determination and upward mobility. A first-generation college graduate and proud City College alum, he’s now pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Cal State San Marcos with aspirations of becoming City’s Vice President of Administrative Services. Recognized at the Employee Alumni Awards, Guzman-Arellano credits City’s supportive community for inspiring his journey—from part-time student and shoe store sales leader to full-time staff member and supervisor. He and his wife, Bianca, a Ph.D. candidate, are deeply rooted in the college—so much so that they even got married on campus. His story is a powerful reflection of City College’s “You Belong” spirit in action.
