Men’s Basketball Coach Mitch Charlens, now in his 20th season at San Diego City College, reached a major milestone on November 21 by winning his 400th career game, 67-31, over Barstow on the opening night of the Allan Hancock Home Motors Tournament.

"Four hundred wins only happens because of the incredible players, coaches, families, supporters, and my wife and kids who have allowed me to pour so much into these wonderful men in our lives," said Charlens after the win.

"The college, the department, the community, my family and friends, every one of you is part of this," Charlens continued. "I only wish my parents were still here to be proud. "This milestone isn't mine, it belongs to all of us. Much love. We are the Knights!"

Charlens boasts a career record of 400-181 with an average of 20.9 wins per season. He led the Knights to their first-ever state championship in 2017 and finished as the state runner-up in 2018.

Charlens long list of accomplishments also includes nine PCAC championships, four of which were undefeated seasons, nine PCAC Coach of the Year awards, 10 consecutive winning seasons and a .688-win percentage.

This season's team improved to 2-2 after Friday's blowout victory over Barstow with freshman Dylan Griffin scoring a game-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting.

Cyprian Hyde added nine points and six rebounds, while Pharaoh Amadi and Santana Huff each scored seven points off the bench.
