Events

MUSIC@CITY hosts a wide variety of music events throughout the year, both on campus and online. Recurring event series include:

Live from the Studio: Performances by both student and professional musical ensembles from around San Diego County in the City College Recording Studio, livestreamed on YouTube. Past shows have included Mariachi Garibaldi (Southwestern College), Starsign (UCSD), the San Diego Mesa College Guitar Ensemble, and Chunky Hustle Brass Band. Watch the archived shows here.

Community Recording Studio Night: Students, faculty, and community members are invited into the studio to record a cover version of a pop, rock, blues, or hip-hop song. A great opportunity to meet fellow musicians and music producers from the college and the community!

Industry Insiders: An event series showcasing a wide range of music industry professionals. Guests share their professional journeys, offer insights into their specializations within the industry, and give career advice. Past events have focused on video game audio, music for TV commercials, running a recording studio, and more. View archived events here.

Microphone & Effects Pedal Workshops:  We partner with Austin Ribbon Microphones, a local San Diego company, to run DIY workshops in which students can build their own professional-quality ribbon microphones, effects pedals, and guitar amps.

Live@City: A wide variety of performances around campus, often with live sound support from our Commercial Music 162/262 students. Past performers have included members of the San Diego Symphony String Quartet and African percussionist Adama Bilorou.

Open Mics: The City College Music Club hosts Open Mic events in the Recording Studio and around campus. Follow @sdcitymusicclub for more info.
