A.I. Resources

Generative AI (GenAI) refers to machine learning systems that analyze patterns in data to produce new content - such as text, images, or scientific outputs - not present in the original input (Rathkopf, 2025). While these tools offer powerful support for educational tasks like drafting explanations or creating visuals, they raise important ethical concerns including bias, where outputs may unfairly represent certain genders or races (Zhou et al., 2024), and hallucinations, which are outputs that appear plausible but are factually incorrect (Rathkopf, 2025). Generative A.I. is ever evolving and we commit to keeping pace to provide a balanced source of information and support. Check back periodically for updates and review the SDCC Academic Senate AI position paper for reference.

  • 9/5: Ethical Use of AI in Academia and Research Join us for a real-talk session on using AI ethically in your teaching, research, and student assignments. We’ll explore academic integrity, transparency, and what “responsible use” means in a rapidly changing landscape.
  • 10/3: ChatGPT vs. Perplexity: Who Wore it Best (for Research)? Two AI tools walk into a research question... who gives the better answer? In this hands-on showdown, you’ll compare ChatGPT and Perplexity side by side, test their strengths and weaknesses, and learn how to guide students in evaluating AI-generated content.
  • 11/7: Sneak Peek to AI in Library Services. From chatbots to database search tools, discover how AI is transforming library services behind the scenes. You’ll get a sneak peek at emerging tools, and real library use cases.
  • 12/5: AI Remix: Teaching, Copyright, and Creative Tools. What happens when AI meets copyright, creativity, and course content? In this hands-on session, we’ll explore AI tools like Canva and ChatGPT alongside library resources and services that support ethical use, fair use, and open educational materials.
