Winter and Spring Transfer

Most universities, including UC and CSU campuses, admit transfer students for the fall term. Some also offer winter/spring admission options, though availability will vary by campus and major. The information below is based on general CSU and UC transfer deadlines.

For private, independent, out-of-state, and HBCU transfer information, visit the respective university websites. Local private options include University of San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene University, and National University, among others.


California State University (CSU)

The following campuses are still accepting applications for spring 2026 admission through the dates listed below:

  • Bakersfield – September 29, 2025
  • Channel Islands – October 17, 2025
  • Chico – September 30, 2025
  • Dominguez Hills – September 30, 2025
  • East Bay – October 15, 2025
  • Humboldt – September 30, 2025
  • Monterey Bay – October 1, 2025
  • Northridge – September 30, 2025
  • San Francisco – September 30, 2025
  • San Marcos – September 30, 2025
  • Sonoma – September 30, 2025
  • Stanislaus – September 30, 2025

CSU Deadlines & Open Campuses

General Spring Transfer Timeline

Summer (the year before transfer) 

  • Apply for graduation to earn your Associate Degree or Associate Degree for Transfer by July 31 if you will be completing your requirements by the end of summer. Check the SDCCD Evaluations website.
  • Submit your CSU application through Cal State Apply between August 1-31. Some campuses may extend deadlines into September or beyond. Check Cal State Apply. Scroll down to "Is your campus still accepting applications?" (1.) Choose Entry Level: Upper Division >59 units; (2.) Choose Enrollment Term: Spring 2026; (3.) Select "Submit". See open campus information near the bottom of the page.

Fall (the semester before transfer) 

  • September - October: Spring Admissions Decisions Released
  • October 1: Deadline to apply for graduation if earning at Associate Degree for Transfer by the end of the fall 2025. Apply in your mySDCCD portal.
  • Add campuses to your financial aid application.
  • Monitor emails & university portals regularly for important admission updates.
  • Request official transcripts from all colleges attended (when requested by your transfer university).
  • Submit your Intent to Enroll and pay any fees if required.
  • Request GE Certification (if applicable) after committing to a university.

Winter – Final Steps Before Transferring

  • Order final transcripts with fall grades included as instructed by your university.
  • Submit proof of ADT or GE Certification if applicable.
  • Attend transfer orientation & prepare for your transition into the university!


University of California (UC)

July 1-31: UC Winter/Spring Application Filing Period (UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz).

Applications are currently closed for transfer to the UC. View open campuses and majors below during the filing period.

General Winter/Spring Transfer Timeline

Spring (the year before transfer)

  • April – May: Update your UC Transfer Admission Planner (UC TAP) to prepare for import into the UC application (if applicable).
  • May 1-31: Submit UC TAG application (if applicable; currently only available for UC Merced for spring). 

Summer (the year before transfer) 

  • June – July: Draft Personal Insight Questions (PIQs).
  • July 1-31: Submit UC application to UC Merced.
  • August 15: Deadline to submit UC application to UC Santa Cruz for winter 2026 admission
  • August: Submit UC Transfer Academic Update (TAU) reporting your summer grades and your planned fall courses.

Fall (the semester before transfer)

  • October 1: Deadline to apply for graduation if earning at Associate Degree for Transfer for fall 2025. Apply in your mySDCCD portal.
  • Monitor emails & university portals regularly for important admission updates.
  • Request official transcripts only if listed in your student portal To-Do List.
  • Submit your Statement of Intent to Enroll (SIR) and pay any fees if applicable.
  • Request GE Certification (if applicable) after committing to a university.

Winter – Final Steps Before Transferring

  • Order final transcripts with fall grades included as instructed by your university.
  • Submit proof of GE Certification if applicable.
  • Attend transfer orientation & prepare for your next steps!
